Ready-To-Go Bee Hive for Spring 2019
This is our very own configuration of hive - scroll down to see image and further information.
It comprises a mix of trusted old features and brand new technology. Trust us, it has everything you need, and nothing you don’t. It’s specifically designed for Central Otago conditions, and is thermally awesome to help your bees survive our long, cold winters.
You can at anytime purchase an extra honey box, from anyone you like, to add to the top of this hive. Realistically, you won’t need a second a honey box until summer 2020.

Create the perfect climate with the new Hive Doctor Hive Mat and Insulated Lid All-In-One!
The Hive Doctor Therma-Lid is two products that have been combined into one, developed to save you TIME and MONEY. With less gear, hive inspections become faster - ultimately making your overall hive management more efficient!
The Therma-Lid is made of Tough High Density Polystyrene (HDP), which is pre-painted for durability.
HIve Doctor Bee Feeder- Holds 8.5 Litres.
The new Hive Doctor Therma-Feeder provides insulation and feeding all-in-one. Developed to save you TIME and MONEY, whilst lowering winter mortality and ensuring you have earlier, stronger brood build up.
Insulation (particulary in the roof) has been proven to both retain warmth (Winter) and reflect external heat (Summer). Insulation assists the colony by reducing extreme temperature variations within the hive, resulting in less energy needed by the bees to manage these variations.
Well insulated hives have shown significantly lower winter mortality, earlier brood build-up in spring and ultimately an increase in honey production.
Made from High Density Polystyrene (HDP) the Hive Doctor Therma-Feeder comes pre-painted and includes plastic reinforced access areas on the front and back.
Ready to Go Hive
This is all you need to kick off your first Bee Hive. This contains everything you want, but may not know to ask for.
In summary, the timber hive boxes have been wax dipped, to make them impervious to moisture …and give them around a 30 year life. You can paint these boxes on the outside to personalise them.
The hive base or floor is timber and has been wax dipped. Its too cold in Central Otago for ventilated floors.
The frames are full depth 30gm plastic frames that have all been sprayed in beeswax, and are ready to go.
We have gone for 2 x full depth boxes. The bottom one will be your Brood Box, the second will be your first Honey Box. It will take your bees this first full high season to fill out the honey comb in these two boxes.
The Queen Excluder is a proper steel excluder, not a flimsy plastic excluder. The difference being, when you pull out your excluder next winter you can clean the wax off with a heat gun and have it nice a clean to pop in again in Spring 2020.
